Notice Period Meaning (US Workplace)
A notice period is the time between when you resign and your last working day. In the US it is often set by courtesy, handbook, or contract—not one federal length.
How it shows up
“Two weeks notice” is a common notice period. Contracts may require 30 days or more. Some employers may end employment earlier while still calling it a resignation.
How to state it
Always write the calendar last day. Saying “I am giving two weeks notice” without a date creates confusion.
